Hello! Welcome to Black Rose Boxers! We are a newer AKC Boxer breeder, having come from 20 plus years breeding, training, working and showing AKC Registered Rottweilers. My name is Teri Carpenter, and my usual "day job" is working as a Registered Nurse with special needs high school students as a program nurse for the Intensive Learning Center there. I am also attending University online to finish up my Bachelor's degree in nursing. My interest in dogs began as a child, having owned multiple breeds of dogs including Irish setters and Labrador retrievers throughout my childhood years. As an adult, I became interested and studied the Rottweiler breed for five years before obtaining my first show dog, who would later become a multiple champion, Top 10 conformation and carting Rottweiler, a Top 20 conformation Rottweiler with five working titles as well as being listed on Kennel Review's 2005 list of Top producing bitches. This same bitch won Winners Bitch/Best of Winners at the 2001 ARC National Specialty. Her daughter would follow in her dam's paw prints winning 2004 ARC National BOS Sweeps over an entry of 200 puppies at barely 6 months old, several regional sweeps wins finishing her AKC championship after winning Winners Bitch at a large California specialty at just 13 months old. She later became a Top 10 and Top 20 Rottweiler in conformation. I became interested in boxers through my good friend Cathy, who has been involved with boxers for over 40 years, and after losing a third Rottweiler to cancer at not quite 6 years old, I decided I needed a change and obtained my first boxer. I now have a second, Scarlett, who will be the foundation of my boxer kennel. I am a past member of both the American Rottweiler Club (17 plus years) and a board member of the Northwest Rottweiler Fanciers. I have been on several show committees and have served as show chair for the ARC Region One Specialty in Enumclaw, WA. I was also an obedience steward for the 2007 ARC Nationals in Florida. Recently I have been learning to ring steward at the local AKC conformation shows. I also have worked towards eventually becoming an AKC judge, having obtained most all of the points needed to begin judging sweeps at the National level for Rottweilers. I've been fortunate enough to judge an AKC match in Oregon for Rottweilers. I am a Board Member of the Pacific Northwest Boxer Club here in Washington state. I am also the committee chairperson for the PNBC Health Committee. I have been working with them to develop and release a seasonal boxer health newsletter. I have also worked with the club to revamp and release the club's new website, which is now live. I hope to eventually become a member of the American Boxer Club and The American Boxer Charitable Foundation in the near future. I am an AKC Breeder of Merit in Rottweilers and am planning on extending this to the boxer breed as well. I'm forever reading the next book on breeding, genetics, training and the like, and two books that I recently read were "The Boxer Blueprint" by Daniel A. Buchwald DVM and Jean M. Buchwald DVM as well as "Breeding Dogs to Win" by Dr. Carmelo L. Battaglia. I also recently obtained "My Life with Boxers" by Friederun von Miram-Stockmann, which is, as the book so eloquently states "The Classic Memoirs of the Most Important Boxer Breeder in the History of the Breed." My past dogs have excelled not only in the show ring, having been National and Regional specialty winners, Top 10 and Top 20 in Conformation and Carting, but also have dabbled in obedience and herding. Black Rose Boxers' goal is to strive for the "Complete Boxer" with the priorities being first and foremost their health and temperament as well as beauty and brains. My thinking is that if you don't have dogs with great temperaments and health, it really doesn't matter how beautiful they are. So those first two are my priorities. Currently we have finally been able to get out into the show ring, having been delayed, as so many have been over the past year or so, by the current pandemic. We have entered shows only having to witness them being cancelled due to the Covid-19 issue. As of this date, (summer 2021) Scarlett only needs one single point to finish her AKC championship. Once the Canadian border opens we plan to show her in the CKC shows, she does have her event registration number to show there.. We are looking forward to getting out there to catch up with our friends, make some new ones and enjoy meeting so many of the wonderful dogs and lovely bitches who are out there. UPDATE: AUGUST 2021-Scarlett finishes her AKC championship in style, being awarded Winners Bitch at the Pacific Northwest Boxer Club Specialty in Enumclaw, WA. Then the following day, she wins Select Bitch her first time out as a champion for the first 2 points towards her Grand Championship!
